After about 8+ years hiatus from Olympic weightlifting, I decided to get back into the sport. After less than a month of training in my 10+ year old lifters, I decided I needed to upgrade my footwear. I looked at lifting shoes from the other companies, but I have always been a big UA fan and to my surprise, UA had come out with these Reign Lifters! Without hesitation, I purchased these through the app. First, my buying experience was excellent! Initially, I had ordered an 8.5, since that’s the size I’ve worn in several past pairs of UA shoes. It was too big. A coach once told me that your lifting shoes should feel snug so that your feet don’t slide around when you stick your lifts, so I ordered a size 8. That turned out to be too big, again, so I apprehensively ordered a size 7.5. Since I have small, wide feet, I was nervous that the 7.5’s would be too tight and make lifting uncomfortable, but to my pleasant surprise, they fit perfectly! The exchange process was easy and painless. The laces are nice and long, so I can tie them sufficiently tight and then tuck them under the Velcro strap which helps increase the support around my foot. I kinda wish there were 2 straps or maybe have the one strap move up towards the top of the shoe. The materials feel pretty high-quality and durable. Yesterday, I trained in my new Reigns for the first time, doing power cleans, power snatches, and barbell front squats. I felt very stable during the cleans and snatches and I noticed that I was able to go lower during my front squats. Having a higher heel height than my old pair of lifters certainly played a role in my increased squat depth. I am very happy with my investment (and it certainly is a pricey investment, but worth it) and I fully recommend these lifters to anyone who is looking to take their oly lifting training to the next level! I look forward to seeing how these continue to perform as I progress in my training. Keep up the great work, UA!
